StartUp Health, a global startup platform accelerating innovation in health and wellness, today announced the addition of eight new companies to its portfolio, bringing the total to 71 companies. The announcement comes as StartUp Health is celebrating its third anniversary at Health Datapalooza in Washington, DC.
As part of the annual Health Datapalooza conference, StartUp Health will host a StartUp Showcase, featuring a fireside chat with Steve Case, chairman and CEO of Revolution and co-founder of AOL, and presentations from 40 StartUp Health companies. The Showcase, sponsored by AstraZeneca, will be attended by hundreds of investors, institutions and individuals from across the healthcare industry, and underscores the conference’s goal of uniting healthcare innovators and highlighting effective uses of health data.
Today, the company is growing rapidly, with 71 companies (three of which have been acquired) from seven countries and more than 35 cities. The program’s portfolio has raised more than $144 million, most recently with the announcement of an $8.5 Million Series A for StartUp Health company Aver Informatics led by Drive Capital and GE Ventures. Each quarter, StartUp Health convenes its companies for a Healthcare Transformer Summit, and invites industry leaders to spend time with the companies. Prominent venture capitalist Vinod Khosla will join this week.
The eight new StartUp Health companies share a goal of solving critical problems in healthcare and improving health and wellness. The new companies cover a wide range of sub-sectors, from big data and analytics to care navigation to telemedicine. They are also led by dynamic founding teams, including serial entrepreneurs who have taken companies public or sold companies to Apple, Texas Instruments and Accuweather.
The new companies will participate in the three year location- and stage-agnostic program focusing on customer development, capitalization and fundraising, scaling team and talent, and streamlining operations to best position startups for growth. One of the key differentiators is StartUp Health’s long-term focus on connecting health and wellness startups with customers, pilot programs, strategic capital partners, and the critical resources designed to help Healthcare Transformers achieve 10x equity value for their businesses.
