Siemens Healthcare is buying US based Mobile MD Inc, a healthcare technology company that helps connect healthcare providers and physicians through cloud computing. Siemens Healthcare did not disclose the terms of the transaction.
The Yardley, PA based tech company utilized a “cloud” based health information exchange software allowing physicians to share patient data in real time regardless of their location or hospital affiliation. Mobile MD currently has about 110 hospitals and more than 2,000 physicians use the service remotely hosted in Mason, OH and Bethehem, PA.
The acquisition will give MobileMD access to Siemens extensive network in the US as they join Siemen’s Health Services Business Unit. In a statement from John Glaser, CEO of Siemens Healthcare said, “Siemens was impressed with MobileMD’s capabilities to enable this level of data sharing while maintaining an impressive focus on customer satisfaction.” Mobile MD Inc. head, Todd Fisher, will join Siemens as vice president. Mobile MD employees will continue to report to him.
The acquisition will allow Siemens to utilize Mobile MD’s data exchange technology and enhancing it’s ambulatory services. In conjunction with Mobile MD’s health information exchange technology, future clients can exchange data with physicians across multiple information systems.
