Tandem's t:slim X2 Insulin Pump Now Integrates with Abbott's FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus Sensor

What You Should Know:

– Tandem Diabetes Care, an insulin delivery and diabetes technology company, today announced that its Tandem t:slim X2™ insulin pump with Control-IQ+ automated insulin delivery (AID) technology now works with Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre® 3 Plus continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor.

– The company has initiated an early access program in the United States and intends to scale availability in the second half of 2025.

Expanding Patient Choice and Personalization

This new integration addresses a critical need for personalization in diabetes care. By connecting two leading technologies, more people living with diabetes can access the benefits of an advanced AID system. The newly integrated system combines the strengths of both Tandem’s and Abbott’s flagship products to create a seamless user experience.

  • Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus Sensor: This CGM features an extended 15-day wear time and transmits automatic glucose readings every minute directly to the t:slim X2 pump. Users can also view their data on the Tandem t:slim mobile app for added convenience.
  • Tandem’s t:slim X2 with Control-IQ+: This advanced hybrid closed-loop algorithm adjusts insulin every 5 minutes based on predicted glucose values. It is the only system with the unique AutoBolus™ feature, which automatically calculates and delivers a correction bolus to help with missed meal boluses.

A Global Strategy for Expanded Access

This launch is the first step in a broader strategy to connect Tandem’s portfolio of insulin pumps with Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre sensors worldwide. Tandem will email eligible users in the U.S. with more information on how to access the new integration when it becomes available.

“This is an exciting first step in our strategy to connect Tandem’s portfolio of insulin pumps to Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors worldwide,” said John Sheridan, president and chief executive officer of Tandem Diabetes Care. “We look forward to expanding access to our t:slim X2 users outside of the U.S. beginning later this year.”
