KLAS Healthcare BI & Analytics Report: Is Microsoft Gaining Momentum?

– New KLAS report finds Microsoft’s business intelligence (BI) solution has surged in the healthcare BI and analytics market, due largely to the option of packaging the solution with Azure, Microsoft’s cloud data storage solution.

– KLAS report finds Microsoft is tied with Health Catalyst for the second most considerations in healthcare BI and wins nearly all deals in which they are considered.

The healthcare business intelligence (BI) and analytics market has become crowded, with vendors touting a variety of different benefits, according to the latest KLAS report. Many healthcare organizations are looking to consolidate solutions, but who can meet organizations’ analytics needs and also bring departments together, aggregate siloed data, and drive outcomes in a consolidated way?

The KLAS report examines 45 BI purchase decisions made over the last 18 months to determine:

– What is driving buying decisions?

– Is it the solutions’ power/flexibility or the vendors’ experience/relationships?

– Which vendors are gaining momentum?

– Which are being left behind?

Tableau and Health Catalyst Remain Consistent, High Performers

Perceived as a leader in visualization, Tableau is the most considered vendor, garnering looks in nearly 40% of decisions. Current clients rate product quality high, reporting rich, powerful visualizations that are easy to build, consume, and share. However, Tableau’s new pricing model has been a concern for some potential customers. KLAS finds the consistent high performer Health Catalyst is often considered due to their reputation and experience.

Healthcare Interest in Microsoft’s BI Solution Surges

Among healthcare organizations, interest in Microsoft’s BI solution has surged, due largely to the option of packaging the solution with Azure, Microsoft’s cloud data storage solution. Healthcare is a significant focus for Microsoft right now, and much R&D is being put into the product. KLAS finds Microsoft’s product is still immature in some areas, such as data governance at the application level.

Microsoft is tied with Health Catalyst for the second most consideration in healthcare BI and wins nearly all deals in which they are considered. Health Catalyst has invested heavily in R&D to advance its products in clinical and operational areas such as BI, artificial intelligence, and population health management. Current customers report good value; despite being seen as expensive by potential smaller healthcare organizations.

Other key findings of the KLAS report include:

– Dimensional Insight clients report high satisfaction and high retention

– IBM and SAP have become almost irrelevant in current purchase decisions

– Information Builders is gaining in consideration among potential customers

– Change Healthcare has high performance and retention, but described the solution as lacking innovation

– Epic’s BI solution is considered immature by some organizations with few clients bringing non-Epic data into the Cogito suite

– MedeAnalytics’ current customers are not overlyl impressed and some are looking to move away due to functionality issues and amount of manual work needed to manage data
