What You Should Know:
– MEDITECH has announced new workflow advancements to its Traverse Exchange interoperability solution, which are already live at 112 health systems.
– These enhancements feature a consolidated patient summary that improves clinician efficiency by providing a streamlined view of patient data from multiple sources within the native EHR workflow. The system intelligently filters out redundant information, organizing key data in a searchable format to enable faster, more informed decision-making.
Breaking Down Data Silos
Traverse Exchange, which is now live in 39 U.S. states and territories, is designed to break down data exchange barriers across various sources. The network’s latest enhancements are transforming how providers access their data through the consolidated patient summary. According to Mike Cordeiro, MEDITECH’s Senior Director of Interoperability, the goal is to go beyond simply exchanging data and provide “utility around that data” so it can be meaningfully applied to patient care.
Several customers have already seen positive results from the new enhancements. Emanate Health, a Southern California-based system, joined the network in October 2024 and noted that no additional full-time employees were needed for implementation, and data was immediately accessible and actionable. They have since retrieved over three million documents, with more than 70% coming from health systems using the Epic EHR. Similarly, providers at Frederick Health in Maryland are finding “tremendous value” in the new consolidated patient summary, which helps them access critical patient information that may reside outside their network.
“For interoperability to gain widespread appeal and adoption, it needs to go beyond simply exchanging data — there needs to be utility around that data so it can be meaningfully applied to patient care,” said MEDITECH Senior Director of Interoperability Market and Product Strategy Mike Cordeiro. “That’s why we are so excited about our latest advancements to the Traverse Exchange network. We’re bringing discrete and meaningful data to the clinicians, within their native workflows, where it can be instantly sorted, filtered, and applied to their decision-making, improving their satisfaction.”
