What You Should Know:
– DHL Express, the world’s leading international express services provider, today announced a significant expansion of its specialized Medical Express (WMX) service, adding a next-day delivery capability for the critical Brazil-to-USA lane.
– The enhancement connects South America and Puerto Rico more efficiently to the United States, providing crucial support for customers in the pharmaceutical and clinical research sectors navigating complex global supply chains.
Next-Day Delivery for Time-Critical Clinical Samples
The enhanced WMX service focuses on expertly managing the export and regulatory requirements for urgent, temperature-controlled shipments vital to medical research and clinical trials. DHL Express now facilitates the transport of sensitive biological samples from locations including Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru to central U.S. destination laboratories in less than 30 hours from the time of patient draw. This rapid turnaround is critical for maintaining the integrity of samples used in flow cytometry and other highly time-sensitive assays, ultimately aiming to improve patient testing outcomes.
Streamlined Operations Overcome Regional Logistics Hurdles
DHL has implemented significant operational improvements to ensure service reliability and speed, particularly addressing challenges unique to the region. In Brazil, the WMX clinical trial platform includes specialized bilingual customer service, readily available dry ice and temperature-controlled packaging, online booking tools, and the web-based Express Logistics Platform (ELP) to connect investigator sites seamlessly. A key innovation tackles Brazil’s intricate export regulations.
“Given the complexities of export processes, tax payments, and ANVISA (Brazil’s health regulatory agency) approvals necessary in Brazil, our integrated system allows DHL to initiate export approvals before samples arrive at our facilities,” explained Brian Bralynski, Senior Director of Life Sciences and Healthcare, DHL Express Americas. “This enables DHL to extend later collection times for investigator sites, allowing more time to schedule patient visits while still exporting on the day of collection.”
