What You Should Know:

– Philips and Medtronic Neurovascular, an innovator in neurovascular therapies, have announced a strategic partnership to advocate for improved stroke care worldwide.

– Recognizing the critical need for timely diagnosis and treatment of stroke, the two companies are joining forces to raise awareness, improve access to care, and leverage technology to enhance stroke outcomes.

The Global Burden of Stroke

Stroke is a leading cause of disability and death globally, affecting millions of people each year. The economic burden of stroke is also significant, with estimated annual costs reaching hundreds of billions of dollars.

A Collaborative Approach to Stroke Advocacy

Philips and Medtronic Neurovascular are committed to working together to address the global stroke challenge. Their joint efforts focus on three key areas:

  • Raising Awareness: Educating the public about stroke symptoms and the importance of seeking immediate medical attention.
  • Improving Access to Treatment: Expanding the availability of stroke-ready hospitals and providing training to healthcare professionals on the latest interventional techniques.
  • Leveraging Technology and Innovation: Utilizing advanced imaging and digital health tools to enhance stroke diagnosis, treatment, and post-procedure monitoring.

Joining the WSO Advocacy Coalition

In addition to their direct partnership, Philips and Medtronic Neurovascular have joined the World Stroke Organization (WSO) Advocacy Coalition. This coalition brings together diverse stakeholders to develop coordinated strategies for addressing the global burden of stroke.

“Stroke care is a race against time, and by joining forces with Philips, we can help accelerate access to life-saving treatments like mechanical thrombectomy. Together, we are advocating for necessary investments in stroke care infrastructure to reduce the burden on patients and healthcare systems globally,” said Signe Haughton, Chief of Staff, Senior Director of Medical & Government Affairs, Medtronic Neurovascular.
