HIMSS26: Zoom Announces Epic EHR Integrations and Ambient AI Clinical Notes

What You Should Know

  • The Launch: At the HIMSS26 conference, Zoom announced a massive wave of healthcare-focused innovations aimed at deeply embedding its tools into clinical and operational workflows, moving far beyond standard telehealth video calls.
  • The Epic Integration: Zoom is aggressively expanding its footprint within Epic. Zoom Contact Center will be generally available within the Epic Toolbox in April 2026, featuring an embedded call bar, smart screen pop for patient records, and auto pause/resume recording for compliance.
  • The Ambient AI Play: Zoom is entering the highly competitive ambient scribe market. Its Clinical Note feature will now integrate with Epic Mobile Haiku and Hyperspace, automatically generating structured documentation from patient conversations in as fast as a minute.
  • Frontline Upgrades: Expected later in 2026, Zoom Workplace for Frontline will roll out asynchronous operational tools, including facility-wide urgent notifications, dynamic on-call messaging groups, QR code-based alerts, and AI-summarized shift welcome messages.
  • The Hard ROI: Zoom highlighted concrete metrics from PocketRN, a virtual nursing company using its AI-first clinical notes. PocketRN reported a 60% reduction in documentation time, $27,000 saved per month, a 92% nurse satisfaction rate, and a 30% drop in ER visits and readmissions among its patients.

Infiltrating the Epic EHR Workflow

Beginning in April 2026, the Zoom Contact Center will be natively available within the Epic Toolbox. This is a massive operational unlock for the more than 300 healthcare organizations currently using Zoom’s CX solutions. Instead of forcing contact center agents to toggle between a phone app and the EHR, Zoom has embedded a call bar directly within Epic. When a patient calls, a “smart screen pop” automatically surfaces their medical record, and agents can utilize click-to-call directly from the patient profile.

Furthermore, Zoom is deploying its Zoom Virtual Agent (ZVA) to automate routine patient inquiries across voice and chat, functioning as a digital front door that deflects low-acuity administrative volume away from human staff. (Note: This integration is currently powered via SpinSci, with a native Epic integration coming shortly).

Entering the Ambient Scribe Wars

Perhaps the most competitive move is Zoom’s expansion into AI-powered clinical documentation. The company is taking direct aim at the ambient scribe market currently dominated by Microsoft’s Nuance (DAX) and a slew of well-funded startups.

Through its Clinical Note integration, Zoom’s ambient voice technology captures visit summaries and converts them into structured documentation in roughly a minute. Crucially, this is synced directly between Epic Mobile Haiku and Epic Hyperspace, allowing clinicians to capture, review, and finalize AI-generated notes without ever leaving the Epic ecosystem.

The ROI on this capability is already materializing. Virtual nursing company PocketRN adopted Zoom’s AI-first documentation and reported staggering operational metrics: a 60% reduction in documentation time, yielding $27,000 in monthly savings and a 92% nurse satisfaction rate.
