CMS Interoperability Mandate and Technology Advantage
The deployment is a direct result of Humana and Epic’s joint pledge to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Health Technology Ecosystem. This White House-backed initiative aims to eliminate outdated, paper-based processes and create a patient-centric healthcare system.
The new features are part of Epic’s Payer Platform, which enables secure, automatic sharing of Humana members’ insurance information—including coverage details and digital insurance cards—with providers using Epic.
Key benefits of the digital exchange include:
- Time Savings: Providers experience a reduction in time spent at the front desk by up to 50%.
- Accuracy & Efficiency: The automation prevents manual entry errors and ensures smoother, more accurate billing, reducing administrative burden and delays.
- Interoperability: Data is exchanged using national interoperability standards that protect patient information and support CMS’s vision for a modernized infrastructure.
