What You Should Know:

– KLAS Research has released its annual “Global Acute Care EHR Market Share 2025” report, providing a comprehensive look at EHR sales activity in 2024. The report highlights a dynamic global market where EHR projects remain a high priority for healthcare organizations worldwide, second only to AI initiatives. In 2024, the number of new EHR contracts reached a five-year high, yet the number of hospitals impacted by these contracts surprisingly dropped to a five-year low.

– KLAS validated 246 EHR decisions impacting 550 hospitals and over 122,000 beds across 43 different countries and territories, with 39 different EHR vendors selected. The report details that fewer large-scale regional decisions were finalized in 2024 compared to previous years.

Global Trends: More Contracts, Smaller Scale

Despite a five-year high in new EHR contracts, the total number of hospitals impacted by these decisions decreased to a five-year low in 2024. This indicates a shift towards more decisions being made by standalone hospitals or smaller hospital groups, rather than large regional initiatives.

Regional decisions validated by KLAS in 2024 included Austria, Canada, France, Mauritius, Saudi Arabia, and the UK. While multiregional vendors saw a smaller share of 2024 contracts, smaller, standalone decisions often favored local, lower-cost solutions.

Global Acute Care EHR Market Vendor Activity Highlights

Several key multiregional and regional vendors showed notable activity in 2024:

  • Dedalus: Had another strong year in 2024, contracting for the highest number of beds for the third consecutive year. They were chosen by 24 organizations across 8 countries in Europe and Latin America. Dedalus gained nearly double the number of contracted beds compared to the next-highest vendor.
  • Epic: Selected by 7 organizations in 2024, Epic’s second-highest number of contracts since 2020. Key wins included Singapore’s Ministry of Health expanding Epic to its third and final public hospital cluster (over 6,000 beds) , and a provincial-wide decision in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, giving Epic the largest market share in Canada.
  • InterSystems: Chosen by 9 organizations across 6 countries in the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. This represents their second-highest gains in five years, impacting 28 hospitals and roughly 6,300 beds.
  • Oracle Health: Experienced their lowest number of contracts in the last five years, with only 2 validated contracts in England, further expanding their market share lead in that country.
  • MEDITECH: Saw their second-highest number of net-new hospitals since 2020, with new customers in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Oceania.
  • IQVIA: Selected by private hospital groups in Southeast Asia.
  • Regional Vendors:
    • Nexus AG & MipihSIB (Europe): Showed solid growth, particularly in France and Germany.
    • Aosta & Trio Tree (Asia): Expanded outside India, with Aosta being selected by 12 standalone hospitals in India (4 with over 1,000 beds) and Trio Tree gaining a country-wide decision in Mauritius.
    • Nervecentre (UK): Had a breakout year, selected by 5 NHS trusts, more than doubling their footprint in England.
    • Cloud Solutions (Middle East): Their VIDA platform was selected by a large health cluster in Saudi Arabia impacting 21 hospitals, the largest public contract in the Middle East in 2024.

Regional Breakdown of EHR Activity

  • Europe: Remained the region with the largest number of hospitals impacted by EHR decisions. Activity was largely driven by France (GHTs and private sector) and the UK, with significant pushes for EHR adoption among less digitally mature trusts. Austria and Germany also saw significant decisions.
  • Latin America: Hit a five-year high in contracts in 2024, with Brazil continuing to lead activity. Standalone hospitals drove much of the purchasing. InterSystems and Philips were the most active vendors in other Latin American countries.
  • Asia: EHR purchasing activity was high, bolstered by a surging Indian market, where KLAS validated several new vendors for the first time.
  • Middle East: The number of impacted hospitals and beds rebounded to a five-year high, driven by digitalization efforts in Saudi Arabia, particularly for rural hospitals within health clusters.
  • Canada: Activity was on par with 2023 levels. Epic’s selection by the province of Newfoundland and Labrador gave them the largest market share in Canada.
  • Africa: KLAS validated 7 contracts, covering 25 hospitals and around 4,500 beds. Trio Tree secured a significant country-wide decision in Mauritius.
  • Oceania: Quiet in 2024 after a record-setting 2023, with only 2 small contracts validated. However, several large-scale public and private decisions in Australia are anticipated to finalize in coming years.
