What You Should Know:

– Endo, a pharmaceutical company, is breaking new ground in healthcare education with the launch of its innovative Spatial Computing Injection Simulator.

– The first-of-its-kind initiative leverages the power of spatial computing, also known as “mixed reality,” to create a fully immersive learning environment for healthcare providers using Apple Vision Pro.

XIAFLEX® and the Simulator’s Purpose

Endo designed this simulator to help hand specialists refine their injection technique for the administration of XIAFLEX® (collagenase clostridium histolyticum). XIAFLEX® is the only FDA-approved non-surgical treatment for Dupuytren’s contracture when a “cord” can be felt. Dupuytren’s contracture is a condition caused by a buildup of collagen in the hand, which forms a rope-like cord that pulls fingers toward the palm, limiting their ability to straighten.

The Immersive Experience

The Spatial Computing Injection Simulator provides a unique learning experience by enabling providers to interact with both physical objects and digital content simultaneously, using a lifelike hand simulator model and an Apple Vision Pro app.

During the immersive, 20-minute session, hand specialists can:

  • Receive “hands-on” practice on reconstitution.
  • Learn about injection angles.
  • Watch procedures in action.
  • Practice their injection technique on the hand model.
  • Acquire information on the post-injection process.

This immersive training aims to help healthcare providers refine their injection techniques for treating patients with XIAFLEX®, which involves injecting the medication into the collagen “cord” causing the hand contracture.

Positive Early Reception

Endo recently previewed the Spatial Computing Injection Simulator at two prominent medical conferences, generating significant interest and positive feedback. At both the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) and the American Association for Hand Surgery (AAHS) annual meetings, healthcare providers eagerly tested the technology, with more than 600 hand specialists using the simulator.

“The Spatial Computing Injection Simulator represents a major leap forward in enhancing patient care through a groundbreaking educational tool,” said Justin Mattice, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Branded Specialty at Endo. “We’re proud to pioneer this capability in the pharmaceutical industry, paving the way for future innovations that will help transform how healthcare professionals learn and gain hands-on experience.”

Availability and Development

Endo’s orthopedics sales team is now equipped to offer this innovative experience to healthcare providers. Endo collaborated with technology agency Lucid Dream to develop the Apple Vision Pro app and spatial computing experience.
