What You Should Know:

– Teladoc Health has announced the launch of new AI-powered capabilities for its Virtual Sitter solution.

– Virtual Sitter aims to enhance patient safety, address workforce challenges, and improve care delivery for hospitals and health systems.

Addressing the Challenge of Patient Falls with AI-Powered Fall Prevention

Patient falls are a significant concern in hospitals, leading to injuries, increased healthcare costs, and strain on resources. Teladoc Health’s Virtual Sitter solution helps mitigate this risk by providing remote monitoring of patients who are at high risk of falling.

The enhanced Virtual Sitter solution leverages AI, motion detection, and pose estimation to visually detect patient movement that could lead to a fall. This allows for faster intervention by bedside staff, potentially preventing falls and minimizing injuries.

By utilizing AI, a single remote staff member can now monitor up to 25% more patients, effectively increasing the capacity of inpatient care teams. This is particularly valuable in the face of ongoing staffing shortages in healthcare.

Integration with Teladoc Health TV Pro Devices

The AI technology is integrated within Teladoc Health’s TV Pro devices and runs on the edge, using local processing power to improve the security of protected health information (PHI) and enhance system performance.

Availability

The AI-enabled Virtual Sitter solution is now commercially available and is being implemented with select clients. This technology offers a valuable tool for hospitals and health systems to enhance patient safety, optimize workforce efficiency, and improve the overall quality of care.

“For more than a decade, we’ve pioneered new ways for technology to support human interaction in patient care, helping hospitals and health systems transform care delivery and meet their most pressing challenges,” said Andy Puterbaugh, Teladoc Health President of Hospitals and Health Systems. “New applications of AI are now accelerating our impact, supporting continuous improvement of our fully integrated suite of connected care solutions, including Virtual Sitter.”
