InterSystems Launches HealthShare Managed Connections to Improve Data Exchange

What You Need to Know:

– InterSystems launches InterSystems HealthShare® Managed Connections, a service that enables healthcare organizations to take advantage of a network of connections to a vast number of patient records via a central hub and exchange data easily.

– As a CommonWell ConnectorTM product, HealthShare Managed Connections empowers users with the ability to access the CommonWell Health Alliance network—representing more than 15,000 provider sites and 76 million individuals.

InterSystems, a global leader in information technology platforms for health, business, and government applications, today announced the launch of InterSystems HealthShare® Managed Connections,a service that enables healthcare organizations to take advantage of a network of connections to a vast number of patient records via a central hub and exchange data easily. Through the HealthShare Managed Connections hub, participants can exchange information in a safe, controlled, reliable, and efficient manner.

Supporting Vendor-Agnostic Connectivity

Most healthcare organizations today rely on one-to-one connections to their partners and to national networks. InterSystems is taking the approach of “build once, use many” to create connections which keep pace with changing requirements and standards. The HealthShare Managed Connections hub transforms healthcare interoperability with faster onboarding as well as easier maintenance, time, and cost to connect healthcare data. The HealthShare Managed Connections vendor-agnostic connectivity means it doesn’t compete with national networks; it complements them.

Promoting Healthcare Data Interoperability

As a CommonWell ConnectorTM product, HealthShare Managed Connections empowers users with the ability to access the CommonWell Health Alliance network—representing more than 15,000 provider sites and 76 million individuals. Through CommonWell, users have the added benefit of being able to leverage the Carequality Interoperability Framework, further increasing access to patient health information.

To date, the CommonWell network has more than 219 million health records accessible for exchange, and on average, exchanges more than 70 million health-related records per month[1]. Dual access to the CommonWell network and Carequality’s Interoperability Framework can allow customers with a multitude of EMRs to connect. In addition, by connecting via HealthShare Managed Connections, InterSystems can help remove the burden of implementation for provider organizations.

“CommonWell has made significant progress toward breaking down the barriers that stand in the way of nationwide health data exchange; our CommonWell Connector program is proof of that,” said Paul L. Wilder, executive director of CommonWell Health Alliance. “Integrating CommonWell services into the InterSystems HealthShare Managed Connections hub enables a broader diversity of products to tap into existing and future data points, extending and strengthening the value of the CommonWell network for all connected providers and their patients.”

Built on the solid core of InterSystems interoperability and database technology, HealthShare Managed Connections supports data needs on demand and is scalable. In the U.S. alone, InterSystems HealthShare is connected to 26 percent of hospitals, nearly 2,300 EHRs and more than 8,300 other clinical information systems
