Cynerio Raises $7M to Tackle Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) Fraud in U.S.

Cynerio, a New York-based provider of medical device and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) security selections, today announced it has raised $7 million in funding from investors Accelmed, RDC; and MTIP. The company will use the funding to help fuel growth in North America for its 100% healthcare focused cybersecurity platform.

Founded in 2017, Cynerio’s IoMT fraud detection platform analyzes the medical workflows in the IoMT ecosystem, to automatically discover all the entities on the network, provide an ongoing healthcare specific risk analysis, accurately detect anomalies and stop threats to prevent service disruption, data theft, and compliance violations.

Some examples of ‘suspicious shapes’ of traffic and medical system ‘threats’

–  Communications patterns that deviate from the normal medical workflow of the devices, i.e., the patient monitor communicates to the MRI machine.

– Communication to the internet which is not a proper vendor remote connection.

– Radiology devices at high risk – which are typically hyper-connected in the hospital’s network and are critical in providing patient care.

– Devices with older OS are vulnerable to ransomware threats and medical devices very often include obsolete software and OS which typically lags on patching and the presence of sufficient security controls on the device

Hospitals require a security solution that will protect their systems without being intrusive or aggressive. Cynerio delivers complete visibility into a healthcare organization’s IoMT ecosystem, protecting it from cyber threats and helping the organization meet HIPAA regulatory requirements.

U.S. Market Expansion Plans

Rambam Hospital and  Tel Aviv Medical Center (Ichilov) are two of the world’s top healthcare organizations using Cynerio’s technology to protect its sensitive data. The company is now focused on US market development.

“Cynerio is committed to protecting the future of healthcare by focusing on its weakest link – the connected medical devices and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). We are delivering a tailor-made, healthcare driven solution for providers to ensure patient safety and data protection while maintaining operational continuity,” explained Leon Lerman, Cynerio CEO.
