Today, Surescripts announced that it has activated more than 10,000 SSM Health clinicians in Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma on its National Record Locator Service, to locate patient records and obtain a more complete view of the health of a patient, regardless of where the patient received care.
Imagine the scenario: you are visiting the Chicago area, and you fall ill and have to visit the ER at one of SSM Health’s many hospitals in the region. You’re too ill to properly remember your complete medical history (who can anyway?), or all the medications you are taking. Thanks to the National Record Locator Service, your treating physician can locate all of your records – regardless of where you live – and quickly see a complete medical history.
This is possible for the first time because the Surescripts National Record Locator Service is putting the records of more than 140 million patients – or nearly half of the US population – and two billion patient interactions at the fingertips of SSM Health’s clinicians. This connectivity and breadth of record sharing is made possible by the connectivity of the Surescripts network to multiple EHR software vendors, like Epic, as well as key data partners like Express Scripts and CVS Health. Together, these organizations have overcome some of the most significant barriers to healthcare interoperability.
Operating under the Carequality framework, and integrated with Epic’s Care Everywhere interoperability platform, Surescripts National Record Locator Service integrates seamlessly with SSM Health’s physician workflow. As part of the leading nationwide health information network, Surescripts National Record Locator Service covers 2 billion patient interactions for 140 million patients nationwide.
