What You Should Know:

– Luma Health, a leader in healthcare technology and services, has announced the acquisition of Tonic Health from R1. Tonic Health is a prominent provider specializing in dynamic intake, e-consents, and patient-reported outcomes. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

– The strategic acquisition significantly advances Luma’s mission to automate administrative tasks, reduce staff burden, and simplify patient access to care using its AI-native platform.

Expanded Reach and Commitment to Oracle Health EHRs

The combined entity dramatically increases Luma’s footprint in the healthcare ecosystem:

  • Patient Reach: Luma’s service now extends to over 100 million patients across the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Caribbean.
  • System Reach: The acquisition expands Luma’s reach to more than 1,000 health systems, including over 15 of the United States’ leading academic medical centers.
  • EHR Focus: Tonic Health has established a strong presence serving healthcare organizations that utilize Oracle Health EHRs, a commitment Luma is eager to continue and expand upon.

Aditya Bansod, co-founder and CTO at Luma, emphasized the synergy: “We’ve long admired Tonic’s focus on EHR and partner integration, designing products that work for patients and healthcare providers… Together, we dramatically reduce the effort to successfully coordinate care, freeing short-staffed teams from manual tracking and follow-up so our customers’ resources go farther.”

Tackling Operational Bottlenecks: Intake and Follow-Up

Healthcare organizations face an urgent need for increased staff capacity that cannot be met with current resources. The acquisition specifically targets the most persistent operational challenges leading up to and following a patient’s visit.

The combined technology is focused on cutting out manual coordination between staff and patients to successfully get patients:

  • Prepped for Care: Streamlining dynamic intake and e-consents.
  • Through the Doors: Improving scheduling and visit-related coordination.
  • Guided Afterwards: Facilitating post-visit follow-up and care coordination.

“We believe patients and healthcare providers deserve an easier way to handle everything that comes before their visit,” said Anya Henriod, General Manager at Tonic Health. “The Tonic team couldn’t be more excited to work with our new colleagues at Luma to remove the bottlenecks that hold care back. We will build the best-in-business technology together to support our customers as we continue to grow.”
