Humana and DrFirst Partner to Close Care Gaps with Prescription Alerts

What You Should Know:

– Humana Inc. and health technology company DrFirst have announced a new program designed to close gaps in care for patients with chronic conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

– The program aims to help healthcare providers take timely and informed action by connecting with them directly within their clinical workflow. The first phase of this initiative will focus on increasing the use of statin therapy among eligible patients, aligning with a key quality metric from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Approach to Medication Management

The use of statins for certain Medicare patients is linked to lower cardiovascular risk, better health outcomes, and reduced healthcare costs. To address this, Humana is using DrFirst’s prescription orchestration platform to initiate new prescription recommendations for high-risk patients and submit them to providers for consideration. This smart, flexible platform turns disconnected workflows into real-time clinical collaboration among healthcare stakeholders, including providers, pharmacies, and payers. With just one click, a provider can approve the recommendation, generate a new prescription, or note why it is not an appropriate choice for the patient.

“We’re not just flagging care opportunities—we’re making sure they get to providers in a way that’s timely and easy to act on,” said Bethanie Stein, Pharm.D., President, Pharmacy at Humana. “By reaching providers in their workflow, we’re freeing them to focus on patient care, which in turn can help address gaps in care, promote quality and lead to better health outcomes.”
