What You Should Know:

– Leidos announced a collaboration with CareDx – The Transplant Company™ (Nasdaq: CDNA) to drive a major modernization of the U.S. Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN).

– The initiative seeks to transform the organ transplantation process, making it more transparent, inclusive, and effective for patients across the nation.

Contract Award Details

Leidos, in collaboration with CareDx, was awarded a multiple-award, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract with a ceiling of $235M by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration. This contract provides Leidos with the opportunity to compete for task orders to modernize key components of the organ transplant system.

U.S. Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network

The OPTN is a critical infrastructure that connects all professionals involved in the U.S. organ donation and transplantation system. This modernization effort represents one of the most significant updates to the network in nearly four decades, aiming to address long-standing challenges and improve outcomes for transplant patients.

This modernization effort is particularly crucial given the ongoing organ shortage in the United States. More than 100,000 individuals are currently on the national organ transplant waiting list. By improving the efficiency and equity of the organ allocation process, this initiative aims to increase access to life-saving transplants for those in need.

Leidos and CareDx will combine their expertise to design and implement innovations across the pre- and post-transplant journey. The collaboration will focus on:

  • Advancing Technologies: Leveraging cutting-edge technology to improve data management, analysis, and communication within the OPTN.
  • Generating Actionable Insights: Developing data-driven solutions to enhance decision-making and optimize the allocation of organs.
  • Streamlining Operations: Improving efficiency and reducing administrative burdens for healthcare providers and organ procurement organizations.

“Working with Leidos allows us to combine our transplant expertise and innovative digital solutions to address the most pressing challenges in organ transplantation. Together, we are committed to expanding access to transplants, improving patient outcomes and supporting the continued success of key OPTN functions,” said CareDx President and CEO, John W. Hanna.
