Ascension Selects Labcorp to Manage Labs Across 10 States

What You Should Know:

– CommonWell Health Alliance, a prominent force in healthcare interoperability, is proud to announce Labcorp, a global leader in laboratory services, as its newest member.

–  By fostering collaboration and enabling the seamless exchange of clinical laboratory data, this partnership empowers healthcare providers to deliver more coordinated and efficient care, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes.

Labcorp’s Commitment to Interoperability

Labcorp’s membership in CommonWell Health Alliance will allow them to collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including patients, providers, payers, and technology vendors, to enhance the secure and efficient exchange of clinical laboratory data. This streamlined data sharing process aims to improve care coordination, empower patients to make informed decisions, and actively participate in their healthcare journey.

Leveraging FHIR for Enhanced Data Exchange

CommonWell Health Alliance, recently recognized as a Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN), continues to lead the way in interoperability by incorporating new use cases, such as Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®). Labcorp’s participation will be pivotal in building and deploying FHIR data exchange at scale for testing among members, ultimately enhancing the exchange of clinical laboratory data.

Implementation and Future Goals

Labcorp is currently in the early stages of implementation and aims to be fully operational as a service adopter by mid-2025. This collaboration will further advance FHIR interoperability and improve the accessibility and usability of crucial health data.

The Power of the CommonWell Network

The CommonWell network already facilitates the federated exchange of patient information across over 36,000 provider sites, representing 238 million individuals nationwide. To date, it has enabled the exchange of over 7.7 billion healthcare records, demonstrating its significant impact on healthcare interoperability.

“We are thrilled to welcome Labcorp to the CommonWell Health Alliance Network,” said Paul L. Wilder, Executive Director of CommonWell Health Alliance. “Labcorp’s commitment to improving patient care will help simplify the way healthcare providers share information, ultimately leading to better outcomes for patients. I applaud Labcorp for their contribution to interoperability and their dedication to improving health care delivery.”
