– Charlotte-based health system Atrium Health announces it will replace Cerner electronic health system (EHR) with Epic EHR.

– The announcement marks the second health system to depart Cerner this month after AdventHealth announced it will replace Cerner and switch to Epic’s enterprise EHR and revenue cycle management system.

Atrium Health, one of the nation’s most highly integrated not-for-profit healthcare systems based in Charlotte, N.C. will replace their Cerner EHR system with its rival Epic Systems.

“On December 10, the Atrium Health Board of Trustees approved the recommendation to change our EHR from Cerner (Canopy) to Epic,” according to a Dec. 20 email to Atrium Health employees obtained by the Kansas City Business Journal.

The announcement marks the second health system to depart Cerner this month after AdventHealth announced last week it will replace Cerner and switch to Epic’s enterprise EHR and revenue cycle management system.

According to a KLAS report, a total of 65 hospitals left Cerner Millennium (52 of those hospitals came from two health systems) with the vast majority switching to Epic in 2019. The recent decisions by both Atrium Health and Advent Health support this trend.
