Cerner Launches 2019 code App Challenge to Advance Consumers’ Access to EHRs

– Cerner announces Baystate Health, Cerner ITWorks at Adventist Health, Intelliaide, Mindset Medical, and Optimize as the finalists for Cerner’s code App Challenge.

– The finalists will work directly with Cerner engineers at CHC, after which they will present a working demo of their app.

– The winning individual or team will receive a one-year membership to the code program, with Cerner engineers helping guide the app through the validation process.

Cerner has announced the five finalists for Cerner’s code App Challenge whose app ideas best exemplify Cerner’s commitment to third-party innovation to improve the way consumers access their health information. With the 2019 code App Challenge, Cerner encourages innovators to build apps on its industry-leading platforms that further transform healthcare. Proposed apps must focus on consumers’ ability to access, understand and use health information in the EHR.

5 Finalists for Cerner code App Challenge

Here is a look at the five finalists for code App Challenge

Baystate Health: This Springfield, MA, health system proposed an app that uses a consumer’s personal device to receive, complete and transfer health questionnaires/forms electronically and securely between two parties (e.g. patient: provider, institution: health: consumer, patient: guardian).

Cerner ITWorks at Adventist Health: The Cerner ITWorks team at this Roseville, CA, based health system proposed an app that is a central hub for consumer’s health information. The app is powered by Cerner solutions and Social Determinants of Health data, driven by machine learning tools to augment clinical decision systems and predictions.

Intelliaide: This Pearland, TX, based startup proposed a voice-interactive mobile platform that helps caregivers and self-managing patients to track and share patient-generated health data in real-time with family and healthcare providers.

Mindset Medical: This Phoenix-based startup proposed a mobile platform that triages a patient list based on a variety of back pain and spinal condition factors captured before, during and after their visits, ensuring a physicians’ schedule is filled with patients they can effectively treat.

Optimize: This Seattle based startup proposed an app that aggregates data from several Bluetooth and cellular-based remote patient monitoring devices, supporting coordination of equipment delivery to a patient’s home and facilitating reimbursement under current procedural terminology codes.

Next Steps

The finalists will be invited to this year’s Cerner Health Conference (CHC) from Oct. 7-9 in Kansas City, where health care leaders from across the globe gather to stay up to date on the latest innovations in health care. The finalists will work directly with Cerner engineers at CHC, after which they will present a working demo of their app. The winning individual or team will receive a one-year membership to the code program, with Cerner engineers helping guide the app through the validation process. If the app completes validation, it will be added to the code App Gallery.

The Cernercode App Gallery

The Cernercode App Gallery now has more than 30 apps accessed by nearly 53,000 unique and active monthly users. Cerner’s rigorous validation process helps ensure providers and consumers access high-quality and secure apps that bring differentiated benefits to the delivery of care and the patient experience. Cerner’s open platforms and technology provide new ways for organizations to adjust to health care’s rapidly evolving demands.
