- Launching initially in an introductory “beta phase,” the platform will gradually roll out across New Jersey over the coming months to serve Atlantic Health’s 7.5 million regional patient population.
Connecting EHR Data with Conversational Triage
Atlantic Health System and K Health have launched Atlantic Health PatientGPT, an EHR-integrated clinical AI engine deployed directly within the MyChart patient portal. Serving as a connected digital front door, the platform converts natural language symptom inquiries into grounded medical guidance and direct virtual primary care visits across New Jersey.
Generic internet search tools and standalone symptom checkers frequently lack clinical context, triggering unnecessary emergency room visits and patient anxiety. PatientGPT addresses this disconnect by anchoring conversational AI interactions in verified patient records:
- EHR & Portal Synthesis: Draws directly from an individual’s Epic EHR profile—incorporating active medication lists, chronic conditions, and medical history to deliver context-aware responses rather than generic web search results.
- Frictionless Care Escalation: Connects users directly to Atlantic Health Virtual Primary Care for same-day or same-hour clinical consultations when algorithmic triage indicates care is necessary.
- Intake Data Continuity: Transfers conversational data and symptom history from the AI interaction directly into the virtual care encounter, allowing physicians to review the intake background without requiring patients to repeat their history.
- Clinician-Led Policy Framework: Built on clinician-defined decision pathways and safety documentation to ensure responses remain bounded within established medical protocols.
Deployment Footprint
The platform is launching via an initial beta phase before scaling across Atlantic Health’s 14-county service area in northern and central New Jersey, expanding digital access for over 7.5 million residents served by the health system.
“The best use of AI in healthcare makes care more human, not less,” said Saad Ehtisham, President and CEO of Atlantic Health. “Technology should strengthen the connection between patients and clinicians, reduce barriers to care, and help people get the right care at the right time.”
