What You Should Know:
– The Greek Government and Sword Health have signed a landmark national partnership aimed at building one of Europe’s first AI-powered front doors to healthcare.
– The initiative will serve more than 10 million citizens, positioning Greece as one of the first countries globally to launch such a system at a national scale. The transformation is led by Sword Intelligence, the AI Care Management division of Sword Health, marking its first deployment at a national level.
AI Integration to Strengthen National Health Line
The collaboration will initially focus on strengthening the country’s critical National Health Information Line (1566), which is the first point of contact for millions of citizens seeking care navigation. By integrating AI into its triage and coordination processes, the Greek government aims to achieve several critical goals:
- Expand Capacity and improve response times nationwide.
- Deliver Consistent Support while adding resilience to handle sudden surges in demand.
- Ease Pressure on Hospitals and shorten wait times.
Safety and Transparency
Greece’s healthcare system faces the unique challenge of serving hundreds of rural and island communities. Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis expressed confidence that Sword Health can help “rebuild how care flows through our system, making it faster, clearer, and more centred on people”.
To ensure public trust and safety, the Ministry of Health has requested national and international organizations to conduct an independent implementation research study. This review will assess the system’s design and performance against international standards, positioning Greece to become Europe’s role model for building resilient, responsive, and human healthcare systems with AI.
“We believe Sword Health can help us rise to this challenge,” said Adonis Georgiadis, Greece’s Minister of Health. “This partnership will rebuild how care flows through our system, making it faster, clearer, and more centred on people.”
