Masters Category: Sustained Excellence

The Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 Masters category recognizes organizations that have achieved a top-five score at least seven times in the past 10 years.

  • Intermountain Health and Mayo Clinic achieved Masters status for eight consecutive years.
  • Cleveland Clinic earns this distinction for the second time.

Their continued presence reflects intentional investment in their supply chains as a strategic differentiator.

Top Three Themes Driving 2025 Supply Chain Leaders

This year’s leaders navigated market pressures by focusing on three strategic themes:

  1. Resurgence of Cost Management: Leaders built financial impact models for potential tariff changes, diversified suppliers, and invested in real-time monitoring tools to anticipate disruption and reduce cost exposure. This included centralizing operations through consolidated service centers.
  2. Accelerating the Digital Supply Chain: Providers are increasingly deploying AI to streamline processes, including implementing AI-powered analytics platforms for natural-language queries and using GenAI tools for contract review and predictive planning. Other initiatives include robotic process automation, ERP modernization, control towers, and RFID for inventory accuracy.
  3. Expanding Clinical Collaboration Initiatives: Partnerships between clinical and supply chain leaders deepened to align supply strategies with clinical priorities. This enabled breakthroughs like procedure card optimization, reduced supplier variance, and governance structures to standardize utilization and align cost with quality outcomes.

“Healthcare supply chains are under pressure to deliver cost savings, improve resiliency and implement AI to transform their operations,” said Salil Joshi, Senior Director Analyst in Gartner’s Supply Chain practice. “This year’s leaders demonstrated the power of leveraging technology, including AI-driven insights, to extend their span of control, strengthen clinical partnerships and build smarter, more agile supply chains.”
