Ambience Healthcare Launches Chart Chat, an AI Copilot for Epic EHRs

What You Should Know:

– Ambience Healthcare has announced the launch of Chart Chat, an AI copilot designed to integrate directly into Epic’s electronic health record (EHR) system.

– Chart Chat is a first-of-its-kind tool that provides healthcare providers with context-aware clinical insights by combining patient chart data with trusted medical content from BMJ Best Practice and open AI technology.

– Chart Chat aims to combat the growing challenge of information overload for clinicians. By allowing providers to ask natural language questions about a patient’s history, lab results, treatments, and risk factors, Chart Chat delivers relevant, structured answers in seconds.

How Chart Chat Optimizes Clinical Workflows

Chart Chat stands out by creating a novel intelligence layer that sits directly on top of the EHR. Unlike other tools, it combines real-time notes from the current patient visit with a patient’s full medical record. This provides a comprehensive view of both the immediate encounter and past history, allowing clinicians to get accurate answers without wasting time manually sifting through data or switching between different applications.

“This technology can fundamentally change how physicians interact with the medical record,” said Dr. Trevor Satterfield of St. Luke’s Health System. “It lets me ask specific questions about the patient’s history… and get clear, accurate responses in seconds.”

Key Features of the AI Copilot

Chart Chat is equipped with a range of powerful features designed to streamline clinical decision-making:

  • Chart-Aware Question Answering: Helps doctors quickly synthesize key information, such as identifying ineffective medications, comparing past scans, or understanding complex care timelines.
  • Automated Risk Score Calculation: The tool uses validated third-party calculators to determine health risk scores (e.g., CHA₂DS₂-VASc, Wells, and HEART) based on real-time patient data.
  • Clinical Decision Support in Context: Access to evidence-based content from BMJ Best Practice (currently in beta) ensures that clinicians can make decisions informed by the most current and accurate clinical information.
  • Integrated Literature Access: Provides quick summaries and references from the latest medical literature and open-source data from sources like PubMed and FDA databases.

Availability

Chart Chat will be rolled out to Ambience users over the next few months.
