Corti Joins Coalition for Health AI to Advance Responsible and Safe AI in Healthcare

What You Should Know:

– The Joint Commission, an independent, evidence-based healthcare standard-setting organization, and the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI), a nonprofit organization founded by clinicians, today announced a new partnership to accelerate the development and adoption of AI best practices and guidance across the U.S. healthcare system.

– Together, the organizations will leverage their scale and expertise to co-develop a suite of AI playbooks, tools, and a new certification program. This initiative will be rooted in The Joint Commission’s platform for evidence-based standards and CHAI’s consensus-based best practices for responsible health AI.

Creating a Roadmap for Safe and Trusted AI

With the adoption of AI in healthcare rapidly increasing—from patient monitoring to drug approvals—the need for clear guidance on implementation has become critical. According to 2024 research, 46% of U.S. healthcare organizations are in the initial stages of implementing generative AI, a number that is only expected to grow.

The partnership will be the first to issue AI guidance to over 80% of healthcare organizations and programs in the U.S., ensuring that as AI is integrated into care, it is done so in a way that supports safety and builds trust among all stakeholders.

“In the decade ahead, nothing has the capacity to change healthcare more than AI in terms of innovation, transformation and disruption,” said Dr. Jonathan B. Perlin, president and CEO of The Joint Commission. “While it’s impossible to predict exactly what healthcare will look like over that time, AI’s integration and potential to improve quality patient care is enormous – but only if we do it right. By working with CHAI, we are creating a roadmap and offering guidance for healthcare organizations so they can harness this technology.”

The first guidance from this partnership is expected to be available in the Fall of 2025, with an AI certification program to follow.
