Onvida Health and Ambience Healthcare Launch AI Pilot to Transform Clinical Documentation and Reduce Clinician Burnout

What You Should Know:

– Onvida Health, a provider of integrated care throughout Arizona, and Ambience Healthcare, an AI platform for clinical documentation, Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI), and coding, today announced the launch of a pilot program across multiple Onvida Health clinical sites.

– The initiative will see Onvida Health clinicians in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency department settings utilize Ambience’s suite of AI applications to generate comprehensive and compliant documentation in real-time, directly within Epic’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

– The pilot program, set to commence in June 2025, underscores Onvida Health’s ongoing commitment to delivering the highest quality care in the region by supporting its clinicians with innovative technology aimed at improving efficiency, reducing burnout, and increasing valuable time spent with patients.

Investing in Clinician Well-being and Enhanced Patient Care

Onvida Health, a not-for-profit hospital system with 430 inpatient beds and 45 outpatient clinics, serves Yuma County and surrounding southwestern Arizona communities with a team of 495 providers across 52 specialties. Onvida Health anticipates that the integration of Ambience’s AI technology will allow its providers to spend significantly less time on administrative tasks and more time engaging directly with patients. This shift is expected to not only improve the patient experience but also strengthen documentation integrity, support compliance, and enhance financial accuracy.

“We are investing in the most advanced AI platform in healthcare because we believe the best patient care starts with supporting our clinicians,” said Marc Chasin, M.D., Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Onvida Health. “Ambience will allow our clinicians to spend less time on paperwork and more time with their patients-while improving quality, accuracy and compliance.”

Ambience’s AI Suite: Streamlining Clinical Workflows

Ambience Healthcare’s AI platform is designed to assist clinicians before, during, and after patient visits. The technology helps clinicians design their agenda prior to an encounter and listens to the conversation once the clinician is in the room with the patient. Leveraging the patient’s historical EHR data along with the visit recording, Ambience automates various documentation tasks, including clinical notes, after-visit summaries, referral letters, and suggestions for CPT and ICD-10 codes.

The suite of AI applications being piloted includes:

  • Scribing: An AI medical scribe built to support the specific medicine, workflows, and coding/billing requirements of over 100 specialties and subspecialties, including inpatient and emergency medicine.
  • CDI: A point-of-care CDI assistant that analyzes conversations and surfaces precise ICD-10 codes, CPT codes, and full audit trails for revenue cycle teams.
  • Patient Summaries: Comprehensive summaries tailored for patients, their families, and caretakers.

Referrals: Clinically relevant and well-organized referral letters for primary care clinicians and specialists.
