What You Should Know:

– Datavant, a health data platform company announced it has signed an agreement to acquire Aetion, a prominent real-world evidence (RWE) platform that powers critical decision-making in healthcare.

– The strategic combination will bring Aetion under the Datavant umbrella to deliver a comprehensive, end-to-end RWE platform, enabling healthcare and life sciences organizations to more efficiently generate insights on the clinical impact of therapies, both in development and on the market.

– The merger unites two industry leaders with the goal of making real-world evidence truly actionable. The combined entity will cover the full spectrum of services necessary to produce scientifically validated, transparent, and reproducible RWE that meets the rigorous standards of global regulators, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Enhancing Data Discovery, Analytics, and Privacy

The combined companies will focus on leveraging their complementary strengths to create an end-to-end offering encompassing data discovery, linkage, privacy, curation, and advanced analysis. This will empower their ecosystem and life sciences partners to generate analytics-ready insights more effectively.

This acquisition builds on Datavant’s recent innovations, such as the launch of Datavant Connect powered by AWS Clean Rooms, which facilitates cloud-first data discovery and evaluation. Aetion is set to significantly enhance Datavant Connect’s data discovery features, improve privacy assessments, and provide end-customers with clean datasets and robust analytics for a wide range of applications. Reinforcing this cloud-centric approach, the Aetion Evidence Platform is now also available in the AWS Marketplace.

“As Datavant has grown and scaled, our life sciences and ecosystem partners have been asking us for a deeper capability set to bring together disparate data sources so they can tap into a more comprehensive and longitudinal view of patient health across the product lifecycle,” said Kyle Armbrester, Chief Executive Officer of Datavant. “The addition of Aetion’s team of scientists and technologists further bolsters our complementary capabilities and expertise so we can better leverage data from our ecosystem of partners to support efforts before, during, and after commercialization – generating evidence from trial to treatment and beyond to deliver life-improving therapies.”

Aetion Launches “Activate” to Further Empower Researchers

Coinciding with the acquisition news, Aetion has launched Aetion® Activate. This new offering expands Aetion’s software portfolio to better serve biostatisticians and data scientists. Activate provides a collaborative, auditable, and secure platform suitable for both code-based and no-code users, significantly reducing the burdens of manual and error-prone data preparation. This allows research teams to concentrate on critical analysis and insights. When integrated with Datavant’s robust connectivity and tokenization capabilities, Aetion now offers a more unified ecosystem for preparing and analyzing real-world data at scale.

A Powerful Combined Ecosystem for Real-World Data

Upon the closing of the acquisition, Datavant and Aetion will boast a combined ecosystem of over 300 data partners. Datavant’s extensive network of real-world data (RWD) partners includes diverse datasets spanning electronic health records (EHR), claims, specialty pharmacy data, patient registries, imaging and lab results, social determinants of health, and more.
