What You Should Know:

– UiPath, an enterprise automation and AI software company, has unveiled its new generative AI-based UiPath Medical Record Summarization agent at Google Cloud Next 2025.

– Powered by Google Cloud’s Vertex AI and Gemini models, the platform is designed to transform how payer and provider organizations handle medical documents.

UiPath Medical Record Summarization AI Agent

Currently in private preview, the UiPath Medical Record Summarization AI agent combines the capabilities of generative AI and agentic automation. Developed in collaboration with clinical professionals, the agent utilizes Google Gemini 2.0 Flash through Vertex AI to provide more efficient and accurate medical record analysis. UiPath emphasizes that this agent is part of its strategy to deliver vertical AI solutions tailored to specific industry needs.

Key Benefits and Features

The agent, built with UiPath Agent Builder, offers clinician-level, multi-point summarization of extensive medical records. This process, which typically takes a medical professional around 45 minutes, can now be completed in just minutes, with the agent also promising lower costs and higher quality and accuracy compared to manual data entry.

Specifically, the solution aims to improve efficiency for healthcare organizations by:

  • Reducing the time and effort involved in manual summarization, leading to cost savings, reduced rework, and improved revenue opportunities.
  • Significantly decreasing time spent on tasks like patient referral intake, order intake, utilization management reviews – with potential time savings of up to 40 minutes per referral and a reduction in prior authorization turnaround time by up to 50%.
  • Ensuring consistent and high-quality medical summaries with standardized sections and traceable data, enhancing the accuracy of clinical decisions and minimizing errors.
  • Providing structured and organized medical record summaries, enabling clinicians and coordinators to make faster and more confident informed decisions.

Real-World Application and UiPath Medical Records Summarization

The UiPath Medical Record Summarization agent is designed to benefit both payers and providers by offering quick access to accurate information and streamlining critical processes such as utilization management, appeals, referrals, order intake, and clinical trial eligibility checks. A major healthcare payer has already deployed the agent, reporting a 23% improvement in the speed and accuracy of document processing.

The solution delivers:

  • Clinician-level summaries organized into user-friendly segments with traceable citations, enabling quick location and review of relevant information.
  • State-of-the-art retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) for processing unstructured medical record data, aimed at faster chart processing from intake to summary.
  • Reduction of administrative tasks for both clinical and non-clinical professionals.

Availability

UiPath is available on the Google Cloud Marketplace, allowing Google Cloud customers to purchase the UiPath Platform and deploy automation initiatives on Google Cloud infrastructure.

“Chief Medical Officers, Chief Financial Officers, and CIOs at healthcare organizations are consistently under pressure to reduce costs and improve quality of care while dealing with people resource constraints. Currently, clinical and non-clinical staff must summarize large volumes of medical records, yet medical records lack standard formats and summaries meaning they vary in quality and standardization,” said Mark Geene, senior vice president of AI Products at UiPath. “By automating and streamlining summary creation with Google Cloud, UiPath enables healthcare organizations to save clinical review time and improve accuracy, generating significant annual value in time savings and cost avoidance.”
