What You Should Know:

– MEDITECH, a provider of electronic health record (EHR) solutions, today announced significant enhancements to its Traverse Exchange interoperability network.

– The advancements provide clinicians with seamless access to comprehensive patient data from various sources, directly within their workflow, improving care coordination and efficiency.

Traverse Exchange Interoperability Network Enhancements

The Traverse Exchange network enables the secure exchange of health information between healthcare organizations, regardless of their EHR system. With the latest updates, clinicians can now access a unified, longitudinal patient health history, including lab results, medications, immunizations, and more, without leaving their MEDITECH EHR.

Key enhnacements include:

Intelligent Workflow: Streamlines data access and reduces clinician burden by providing a consolidated view of patient information.

Real-Time Data: Enables access to the latest updates from a patient’s health history, including data from MEDITECH hospitals and other connected organizations.

FHIR-Based Data Exchange: Leverages the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard for seamless and standardized data exchange.

Enhanced Visibility: Provides clinicians with a clear overview of a patient’s medical history and care encounters, regardless of where they received care.

Expanding Reach and Impact

Since its launch in the U.S. last fall, MEDITECH’s Traverse Exchange network has seen rapid adoption, connecting 73 health systems and over 250 facilities across 35 states. The network also includes over 40 TEFCA-enabled organizations, enabling secure data exchange with a wider range of healthcare providers. In Canada, the Traverse Exchange Canada network connects 43 MEDITECH hospitals, over 300 long-term care sites, and various provincial health information systems. The network recently expanded to include connections with Epic hospitals and all 60 Oracle EHR customers in Ontario.

“With Traverse Exchange, we’re overcoming two of the greatest barriers to interoperability,” explains MEDITECH Senior Director of Interoperability Market and Product Strategy Mike Cordeiro. “Many data exchange networks either limit you to specified data sources — such as organizations using the same vendor EHR — or rely solely on CCDs as the primary means of data exchange. The result is redundant and fragmented data with little value to the provider. Traverse Exchange uses modern technology and standards like FHIR to make data usable. With these latest advancements, we’ve eliminated redundancies by conveniently organizing this data within a clinician’s natural workflow without interruption in care.”
