Abridge Raises $250M to Advance AI-Powered Clinical Documentation

What You Should Know:

– Abridge, a provider of generative AI solutions for healthcare, today announced a $250M Series D funding round, bringing its total capital raised to over $425M.

– The investment, co-led by Elad Gil and IVP, comes as Abridge surpasses 100 deployments at major health systems across the United States.

Addressing Challenges in Clinical Documentation

Incomplete clinical notes are a major challenge for healthcare systems, leading to delays in billing, increased administrative workload, and potential revenue loss. Abridge’s AI-powered platform captures and transcribes medical conversations, generating comprehensive clinical documentation that reduces administrative burden on clinicians and improves the quality of care. The company’s latest innovation, the Contextual Reasoning Engine, further enhances the platform’s capabilities by providing more clinically useful and billable notes at the point of care.

Abridge’s Contextual Reasoning Engine addresses these incomplete clinical notes challenges by:

  • Integrating data from multiple sources: The engine incorporates information from past patient encounters, revenue cycle guidelines, and clinician preferences to create more comprehensive and personalized notes.
  • Improving problem detection: The AI intelligently identifies and groups medical problems, using language that aligns with billing codes to streamline revenue cycle workflows.
  • Generating actionable outputs: The platform captures medical orders and integrates them directly into the electronic health record (EHR) for clinician review.
  • Ensuring auditability: All AI-generated outputs are linked to source information, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Abridge’s AI platform is deployed at over 100 leading healthcare systems across the U.S., serving a diverse range of specialties, care settings, and languages. This Series D funding will enable Abridge to further develop AI capabilities, expand commercial reach, and explore new applications.

“The Abridge Contextual Reasoning Engine helps us concentrate more value into our core documentation offering, integrating system and revenue cycle requirements into a sophisticated and orchestrated system of AI models,” said Dr. Shiv Rao, Abridge CEO and Founder. “We aspire to serve our health system partners for the decades to come. This investment supports that aspiration, as well as the core research and development that differentiates our approach.”
