Evergen Launches AI-Powered Image Processing to Optimize Bone Graft Analysis

What You Should Know:

– Evergen, a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) specializing in regenerative medicine, today announced the launch of its innovative AI-powered image processing software for bone graft analysis.

– The technology automates the assessment of bone density and structure from CT scans, significantly accelerating the bone grafting process and expanding access to life-changing treatments for patients.

Tech Streamlines Tissue Processing and Expands Access to Regenerative Medicine

Bone grafting is the second most common tissue transplant procedure in the United States, with a market size of $3 billion. Traditional bone graft analysis involves manual review of CT scans by technicians, a time-consuming and subjective process. Evergen’s new software overcomes these limitations by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze hundreds of images and generate detailed reports in under 10 seconds. This dramatic increase in efficiency allows Evergen to process a greater volume of bone grafts, ensuring that more patients can benefit from these procedures.

Developed in Partnership with the University of Florida

The software was developed over two years in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florida (UF). This partnership combines Evergen’s expertise in tissue engineering with UF’s cutting-edge research in AI and image processing.

Improving Efficiency and Accuracy

The AI-powered software analyzes CT scans of human bone grafts to provide accurate and quantitative data on bone density and structure. This information is crucial for determining the suitability of a graft for a particular patient and ensuring the best possible outcomes.

By automating the analysis process, the software:

  • Reduces processing time: Generates reports in seconds compared to hours or days with traditional methods.
  • Improves accuracy: Eliminates subjective interpretation and provides consistent, data-driven assessments.
  • Increases efficiency: Allows technicians to focus on other critical tasks, optimizing workflow and productivity.

Pilot Launch Success

A pilot launch of the software in December 2024 has already yielded more than 50 successful bone scans, demonstrating the technology’s effectiveness and potential to transform the bone grafting process.

“Our innovation always begins with the patient and how we can improve procedures for them. Our team’s experience and ethos of continuous improvement, combined with UF’s extensive research capabilities, has led to a solution that enhances efficiency at the highest standards of bone graft processing. This will better serve our customers’ needs and bring more life-changing regenerative solutions to patients worldwide,” said Adam Poniatowski, Vice President, Business Transformation Office and Information Technology, Evergen.
