ActiGraph and Hyfe Partner to Enhance Cough Monitoring in Clinical Research
ActiGraph, a leader in digital health technology (DHT) solutions for clinical research, has partnered with Hyfe to enhance real-world cough monitoring using wearable technology. ActiGraph integrates advanced hardware, software, and algorithms to generate reliable evidence, accelerating the development of effective treatments. Its medical-grade wearables have supported nearly 250 industry-sponsored clinical trials and thousands of academic studies, appearing in over 25,000 scientific publications.
The new ActiGraph-Hyfe solution leverages:
- Hyfe’s patented cough detection and counting algorithms, which have been validated in 49 research trials and 19 peer-reviewed publications across 16 clinical conditions, including COPD, asthma, oncology, and heart failure.
- ActiGraph LEAP’s advanced sensor technology, specifically designed to detect and quantify cough events over extended periods while preserving patient privacy by not recording or storing ambient audio.
- Seamless integration with ActiGraph Connect, enabling researchers to monitor real-time participant adherence and device performance via the cloud.
Historically, clinical trials have relied on patient-reported outcomes or outdated 24-hour cough recording tools. This new solution enables passive, continuous data collection, providing a more comprehensive and accurate assessment of cough symptoms over weeks and months. By integrating cough monitoring with ActiGraph’s validated clinical measures of physical activity, sleep, and vital signs, researchers gain a holistic view of patient health.
Christine Guo, Chief Scientific Officer at ActiGraph, emphasized the importance of this innovation: “Cough detection is complex, especially at scale. Hyfe has developed a robust, scientifically validated solution. The LEAP wearable is designed to accurately detect and count cough events in real-world settings, offering researchers new tools to assess patient experiences in clinical trials.”
This collaboration is part of ActiGraph’s Accelerant partnership program, which aims to advance digital health technologies in clinical development by simplifying access to patient data and raw data streams.
