Baylor Genetics Integrates with Epic's Aura to Streamline Genetic Testing

What You Should Know:

– Baylor Genetics, a clinical diagnostic laboratory specializing in genetic testing, announced its integration with Aura, the specialty diagnostics suite from Epic EHR.

– The integration will enable healthcare organizations using Epic to seamlessly order Baylor Genetics’ tests and access results directly within the EHR, facilitating faster and more informed treatment decisions.

Enhancing the Provider Experience

This integration streamlines the genetic testing process for healthcare providers, eliminating the need for separate ordering systems and manual data entry. By integrating with Aura, Baylor Genetics empowers providers to:

  • Order tests efficiently: Order a wide range of genetic tests, including whole genome sequencing (WGS) and whole exome sequencing (WES), directly within the Epic EHR.
  • Access results seamlessly: View test results and reports within the patient’s EHR, facilitating faster interpretation and action.
  • Improve patient care: Make more informed treatment decisions based on comprehensive genetic insights.

Expanding Access to Comprehensive Genetic Testing

Baylor Genetics will be the first lab to offer WGS testing through Aura. This comprehensive analysis provides insights into the entire human genome, including regions between genes and the mitochondrial genome. WGS can increase diagnostic yield compared to other genetic tests, enabling more informed decisions about patient care and clinical trial eligibility.

In addition to WGS, Baylor Genetics offers a wide range of genetic tests through Aura, including WES, which analyzes all protein-coding genes in the human body. Patients can also access their test results through Epic’s patient portal, MyChart, promoting greater transparency and patient engagement.

“Joining Epic’s Aura Network will enhance our customer experience and increase accessibility to the genetic testing services we provide,” said Kengo Takishima, President and Chief Executive Officer at Baylor Genetics. “For many seeking to end the diagnostic odyssey, time is of the essence. By being embedded into the EHR, providers can have a simpler experience using genetic tests, which are critical to diagnosis, treatment planning, and ultimately patient outcomes.”
