What You Should Know:

– Penn Medicine is teaming up with Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drug Company to secure affordable generic medications for its patients.

– The strategic alliance will enable Penn Medicine to offer lower-cost prescriptions through its network of retail pharmacies, ultimately improving medication access and affordability for the community.

Addressing the Rising Cost of Medications

The cost of prescription drugs continues to be a significant barrier for many patients, often leading to medication non-adherence and adverse health outcomes. Penn Medicine’s partnership with Cost Plus Drug Company aims to address this challenge by leveraging the company’s innovative transparent pricing model.

Integrated Pharmacy System

Penn Medicine’s integrated pharmacy system plays a vital role in providing comprehensive patient care. This partnership with Cost Plus Drug Company will further enhance the pharmacy’s ability to:

  • Improve medication management: Ensure that medication choices are aligned with each patient’s unique needs.
  • Optimize medication regimens: Assist physicians in managing complex medication regimens and making informed prescribing decisions.
  • Provide patient education and support: Offer guidance and financial assistance to patients to ensure safe and affordable medication access.

“As health systems face rising costs on many different fronts, we’re constantly looking for creative ways to be more cost-effective and simplify care delivery to meet the needs of our patients and care teams,” said Kevin B. Mahoney, chief executive officer of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. “Cost Plus is a new model that will eliminate unnecessary mark-ups on common generic medications and allow us to reinvest those savings in care innovations that are giving patients new choices and setting new standards for medicine.”
