What You Should Know:

– Walmart today announced Pharmacy Delivery, an innovative service that saves customers time by bringing prescriptions – along with the rest of their Walmart orders – right to their doorsteps.

– This innovative offering allows customers to seamlessly integrate prescription orders with their regular grocery and merchandise purchases, all delivered to their doorstep.

Expanding Reach and Impact

Currently live in six states (Arkansas, Missouri, New York, Nevada, South Carolina, and Wisconsin), Walmart’s Pharmacy Delivery is expected to be available in 49 states by the end of January 2025, reaching millions of customers nationwide. This expansion leverages Walmart’s extensive network of nearly 4,600 store locations with pharmacies, providing a significant benefit to busy families, seniors, and individuals managing chronic conditions.

Meeting Customer Demand

This new service directly addresses customer feedback, as a recent survey revealed that over half (55%) of Walmart customers desired the option to include prescription medications in their online orders. This convenience was particularly important for time-constrained individuals and families.

Empowering Pharmacists and Communities

Walmart’s commitment to empowering its pharmacists to practice at the top of their clinical abilities is further strengthened by this initiative. By providing convenient access to medications, Walmart is contributing to healthier communities and improved patient outcomes.

How it Works

The integrated pharmacy delivery service offers a seamless experience through the Walmart app and website. Customers can easily add prescriptions to their online orders, choosing from a range of delivery options:

  • Same-Day Scheduled Delivery: Customers can schedule their delivery for a specific time that fits their needs.
  • On-Demand and Express Delivery: Coming soon, customers will have the option for even faster delivery, including express delivery in as little as 30 minutes.

Prioritizing Safety and Security

Walmart maintains strict safety and security protocols for prescription deliveries:

  • Pharmacist Verification: All prescriptions are verified by licensed pharmacists.
  • Tamper-Evident Packaging: Medications are securely packaged to prevent tampering.
  • Real-Time Tracking: Customers can track their orders in real-time through the app or website.
  • Delivery Confirmation: Customers receive photo confirmation upon delivery.

Affordable and Accessible for All

Walmart+ members receive free delivery on Pharmacy Delivery, while non-members pay a standard delivery charge of $9.95. This pricing structure ensures accessibility for all customers, regardless of membership status.

“Helping customers solve missions is core to everything we do. By combining Pharmacy Delivery into a single order, we’re strengthening our commitment to providing everything they need, whenever and wherever they need it,” said Tom Ward, executive vice president and chief eCommerce officer, Walmart U.S. “If you’re sick, we can deliver the necessary medicine along with everything else you need to feel better: cough drops, a heating pad, blanket and orange juice. Walmart’s size, resources and expertise set it apart from other retailers.”
