Abbott Launches OTC Continuous Glucose Monitor, Lingo

What You Should Know:

– Abbott, a global healthcare company, has announced the U.S. availability of Lingo, a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system designed for individuals who want to improve their overall health and wellness.

– Lingo is the first CGM available without a prescription designed for individuals who want to improve their overall health and wellness, regardless of whether they have diabetes.

A Powerful Tool for Health Management

Lingo combines a biosensor worn on the back of the arm with a mobile app to provide real-time glucose data and personalized insights. By tracking glucose levels and understanding their relationship to food, exercise, and lifestyle factors, individuals can make informed decisions to improve their metabolic health.

Key Benefits of Lingo:

  • Improved Glucose Control: Lingo helps individuals better manage their glucose levels, reducing the risk of chronic health conditions.
  • Weight Management: By understanding how food and exercise affect glucose levels, individuals can make informed dietary choices to support weight management.
  • Better Sleep: A low-glycemic diet, supported by Lingo, can improve sleep quality and duration.
  • Enhanced Mood: Stabilizing glucose levels can positively impact mood and reduce symptoms of depression.

How Lingo Works

The Lingo system includes a biosensor that is worn on the back of the arm for up to 14 days. The biosensor continuously measures glucose levels and transmits data to the Lingo app on a smartphone. The app provides a personalized view of glucose data, including:

  • Glucose graph: A visual representation of glucose levels over time.
  • Lingo Count: A simple metric that summarizes glucose variability.
  • Food and Activity Logging: Tools to track meals and exercise.
  • Personalized Insights: Tailored recommendations based on individual glucose patterns.
  • Lingo Challenges: Interactive features to encourage healthy habits.

Lingo Options

Lingo is available in three options:

  • Learn: A two-week option for understanding glucose patterns.
  • Build: A four-week option for developing healthier habits.
  • Transform: A 12-week option for long-term glucose management.

Lingo offers a convenient and affordable way for individuals to improve their overall health and well-being. By providing valuable insights into glucose levels and offering personalized guidance, Lingo can empower people to make informed decisions and take control of their health.

“There is a great deal of interest in tracking biomarkers that provide insights into one’s health and wellness that were previously undetectable using the trackers available to consumers,” said Olivier Ropars, divisional vice president of Abbott’s Lingo business. “Glucose is a powerful signal of your body’s unique response to food and lifestyle. Abbott’s Lingo tracks your glucose 24/7, translating the data into insights and bridging the gap between traditional healthcare and preventative measures. Lingo empowers individuals to build new healthy habits and take control of their health and wellness.”
