What You Should Know:

– eVisit, a provider of virtual care solutions for health systems, announced a significant expansion today through a three-pronged approach: acquisition of UPMC’s inpatient teleconsult technology, strategic investments from UPMC Enterprises and MedStar Health, and the addition of key figures to its Clinical Advisory Board.

– The strategic expansion solidifies eVisit’s leadership in the telehealth landscape, empowering healthcare systems to deliver exceptional care across the care continuum.

UPMC Teleconsult Technology Bolsters Inpatient Care

eVisit has acquired UPMC’s inpatient teleconsult technology platform, a key step forward in their mission to deliver comprehensive telehealth solutions across all care settings. Developed by UPMC in 2020, this innovative technology allows virtual consultations between specialists and clinicians at the bedside, facilitating faster and more efficient care for inpatients.

Proven Results and Continued Collaboration

UPMC’s teleconsult platform has demonstrably improved patient care. Since its launch, over 40,000 consultations have been conducted, leading to a remarkable 92% reduction in wait times.

The partnership extends beyond the acquisition. UPMC Enterprises’ technology services team will offer expert guidance to eVisit, and Dr. Andrew R. Watson, a senior medical advisor at UPMC Enterprises, joins eVisit’s Clinical Advisory Board.

Expanding a Longstanding Partnership with MedStar Health

MedStar Health, a leading healthcare provider in the Maryland and Washington, D.C. region, has further strengthened its collaboration with eVisit through a strategic investment.

MedStar Health has utilized eVisit technology since 2018, initially for teletriage and provider consultations, and later expanding to scheduled telehealth visits. They will continue to provide eVisit with valuable insights on clinical expertise, product development, and go-to-market strategies. Dr. Ethan Booker, Chief Medical Officer for Telehealth at MedStar Health, will also join eVisit’s Clinical Advisory Board.

Shared Commitment to Equity and Innovation

Both eVisit and MedStar Health prioritize health equity and access to care. For instance, eVisit’s interpreter services allow MedStar Health to connect with patients in dozens of languages. Furthermore, eVisit technology played a pivotal role in MedStar Health’s Connected Care transformation model, designed to improve patient access, clinician well-being, and overall healthcare quality and sustainability. Most recently, MedStar Health leveraged eVisit technology in managing a regional infectious disease treatment hub.

“Our guiding mission at UPMC Enterprises is to develop solutions to the clinical needs identified by the thousands of physicians at UPMC who provide lifesaving care to our patients,” said Brent Burns, executive vice president at UPMC Enterprises. “When we create something like the teleconsult technology that so brilliantly achieves that goal and becomes a vital part of our clinical operations, we look for partners who can help us make it available to clinicians and patients outside our walls. We’re excited to have found that partner in eVisit. Bringing these two technologies together creates a powerful end-to-end virtual care platform.”
