Zelis Acquires Healthcare Transparency Leader Sapphire Digital

What You Should Know:

– Bain-backed digital health payments company, Zelis today announced the acquisition of Sapphire Digital, a healthcare consumer-centered pricing and navigation software company serving more than 100M members. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

– Sapphire’s platform offers tools for provider search and selection, quality ratings and reviews, pricing data, cost calculators, and more to help consumers find the lowest cost and highest quality care available.

Best-in-Class Member Navigation, Engagement & Transparency Solutions

Founded in 2007, Sapphire Digital provides a comprehensive, integrated healthcare consumer shopping and navigation platform, including provider search, quality ratings and reviews, appointment scheduling, pricing data and cost calculators, and other tools to find the lowest cost and highest quality care available. Sapphire’s end-to-end pricing data synthesizes multiple rate inputs, uses rules-based data engines to build procedure bundles, combines real-time benefit and accumulator data for accurate cost estimates, and presents information in a consumable format so members can make informed care decisions.  Sapphire serves more than 100 million members at more than 50 leading health plans, third-party administrators, and self-funded employers.

Acquisition Impact for Zelis

Through the acquisition, Zelis will integrate Sapphire’s consumer navigation tools into Zelis’ existing portfolio of solutions that currently serve 1.5M providers and 700 payers, including the top-5 national health plans. Ultimately, the acquisition enables Zelis to accelerate the development of consumer-facing tools and further its focus on transforming the healthcare payments process into a more seamless experience for payers, providers, and members alike. This comes amid a broader shift towards consumer-focused healthcare and increasing transparency in how healthcare is paid for.
