3M 360 Encompass System Expands with Professional Fee Coding

3M Health Information Systems is expanding its 3M 360 Encompass System platform to introduce encounter-based professional fee coding solution. The new solution brings the power of 3M’s computer-assisted coding, physician query capability and reporting to coding and billing for physician services, helping professional coders improve productivity, boost compliance and decrease claim denials.

The University of New Mexico Hospitals (UNMH), a five-hospital system and New Mexico’s only academic medical center and level one trauma center is currently piloting the new 3M 360 Professional software.

With the 3M 360 Encompass System as its foundation, 3M 360 Professional breaks down the wall between professional fee coding and inpatient and outpatient facility coding. Key features of the platform include:

– Coding teams have one application for facility and professional reports, capturing productivity rates, CDI reporting, E/M leveling and more.

– The software links claims data by date, provider, place of service, modifiers and units, and puts myriad reference materials at your team’s fingertips.

– Built-in queries offer ways to open lines of communication between providers and coders related to documentation and coding issues for compliance with billing rules and regulations.

– Revenue is appropriately tied to the documentation in a demonstrable way – meaning more consistent and accurate evaluation and management (E/M) level assignment.

The software is increasingly important to revenue cycle success as professional fee coding operations become more centralized within hospital health information management (HIM) and revenue cycle departments or hospital medical groups.
