SingleCare Taps American Well to Power Telehealth Visits

by HITC Staff 06/08/2016 Leave a Comment

SingleCare

SingleCare, an online retail marketplace for healthcare services, today announced a partnership with national telehealth provider American Well. The partnership will provide SingleCare members access to board-certified U.S. physicians, psychologists, and registered dietitians practicing on American Well’s Amwell™ consumer platform, for online video consults 24/7/365.

Founded in 2014, SingleCare pre-negotiates prices for routine care that are up to 50 percent less than the provider’s standard list price, and because SingleCare isn’t insurance, there are no premiums or subscription fees — members only pay for services received at the appointment.

American Well’s virtual care services conveniently replace non-emergency acute visits at rates that are substantially less than what would be paid for an in-person office visit, and from the comfort of a user’s home or workplace. Consumers not only save time and money associated with traveling to see a provider, but by receiving care on-demand through Amwell, can choose a provider based on basic profile information, see how much a visit costs upfront, and, if treatment is prescribed, have it sent electronically to their nearest, preferred pharmacy.

With its latest telehealth offering in partnership with American Well, SingleCare is now able to provide affordable, easy-to-navigate care to even more Americans any time of day and from the convenience of their own homes.

According to a 2015 study by Harris Poll on behalf of American Well, 70 percent of consumers prefer an online video visit to an in-office visit to obtain common primary care prescriptions, and 63 percent of consumers believe live video is preferable to other forms of telehealth.

“Our partnership with American Well is a natural progression for SingleCare as we continue to expand our national offerings and provide our members with affordable access to quality care at all times,” said Rick Bates, CEO of SingleCare in the company announcement. “With no added cost for the employer, it’s a great way to provide a robust telehealth experience — saving employees time away from work — without enrollment fees, subscription costs or PMPM fees. Too many employers are funding benefits their employees don’t use. Our simple pay-as-you-use model with transparent pricing is a smart, affordable way to complement an existing insurance program, or create a more competitive benefits package at no cost.”
