Ten mobile health-related startup teams from across the country including Israel and New Zealand have arrived in Kansas City to build and strengthen their businesses in their second annual mobile health accelerator. The Sprint Mobile Health Accelerator, Powered by Techstars, is a three-month, immersive, mentor-driven program for startups.
Participating companies are required to temporarily relocate to Kansas City, Mo. and receives up to $120,000 in convertible debt funding in exchange for 6% equity. Companies are also provided with a first-of-its-kind equity back guarantee meaning startups will have three business days to lower or eliminate Techstars equity position if they are not satisfied with the value of the Techstars program.
The accelerator includes partnerships with Mercy Research & Development, Johns Hopkins, University of Kansas Medical Center and Providence Health & Services that will offer mentorship and possible opportunities for clinical validation or pilot programs.
Teams participating in the program are developing solutions that encompass hardware, software platforms, transformative services, big data and mobile applications.
Here is a look at this Sprint’s second class of startups:
1. Alcohoot

Convenient and expert dermatology consultation for your skin concerns via your mobile device.
5. Jolt
Jolt makes wearable multi-sport head impact sensors to help young athletes play smarter and safer. The Jolt Sensor is a wearable multi-sport head impact sensor. The sensor provides immediate feedback to athletes, keeping them aware of head impacts as they happen. And the connected mobile app enables parents, coaches, and trainers to track their athletes’ impacts in real time.
6. Ovatemp
Ovatemp is a cutting edge mobile app and thermometer that allows women to take control of their fertility.
7. Oxie
Oxie is the first smart, wearable air purifier enabling users to breathe clean air and receive real-time air quality information.
8. Rex
Rex is the first all-in-one app that enables pet owners to compare vet pricing, reviews, and services, while also scheduling appointments for their pets.
9. Social Code
Social Code is an online support community that improves the patient’s health via social connections, behavior change, and a greater understanding of their illness.
10. Triomi
The Triomi Pocket 12-Lead EKG was built out of a need for a portable 12-Lead EKG for busy doctors who want to do more for their patients without the hassle.
