Only four hospitals and 50 professionals have achieved stage 2 meaningful use after seven months into the reporting period beginning on October 1,2013, according to a CMS official. To quality for MU stage 2:
- eligible professionals must meet 17 core objectives and half of the six menu objectives
- eligible hospitals must meet 16 core objectives and half of the 6 menu objectives
- providers must also order at least 30 percent of radiology, 30 percent of labs and 60 percent of medication through CPOE
With low attestations figures, hardship exceptions, and growing EHR backlash many are asking whether or not the incentives have actually encouraged EHR adoption? Eligible hospitals who do not successfully attest to MU stage 2 face lower Medicare reimbursements and significant financial penalties.
