Data Design Challenge offers $100k to startups using big data to enable data driven decisions for diabetes.
25.8 million Americans have diabetes with 79 million diagnosed as pre-diabetic according to the CDC. That’s 1 in every 4 Americans. To solve a problem this huge, a new level of disruptive innovation driven is needed using big data and design to change the lives of millions who live with diabetes.
To spark this new level of innovation, the Data Design Diabetes Innovation Challenge created by US drug maker, Sanofi asks entrepreneurs to submit innovative ideas on how to use open data sets to improve diabetes care in the US, in alignment with the government initiative to liberate big data to advance health.
The 5 finalist teams selected last week will participate in a mentorship phase and bootcamp to improve their solutions before presenting at Health Datapalooza IV on June 3rd.
One team from the set of finalists will win $100,000 for their innovative concept that uses big data to create novel insights or produces data that can be used for decision-making to help improve health outcomes for people with diabetes in the US.
The 5 finalists for this year’s Data Design Diabetes Innovation Challenge are:
