Fitbit Founders Unveil Luffu Link, Wearable for Family Health, Safety and Connection

What You Should Know

  • Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman have officially unveiled Luffu Link, a screenless, jewelry-inspired LTE health and safety wearable designed specifically for family caregiving and aging in place.
  • Luffu Link marks the first hardware device in a broader ecosystem spanning the Luffu smartphone app (introduced in February 2026 and currently in public beta), the wristband, and an upcoming dedicated in-home display device slated for later this year.
  • Addresses the growing caregiver burden in the U.S., where 63 million Americans (nearly 1 in 4 adults, average age 49) spend an average of 27 hours per week coordinating care across aging parents, children, and partners.

Designing for Caregivers, Not Screen Time

Rather than competing for screen attention, the Luffu Link is built from lightweight metal in three finishes (Halo Gold, Onyx Black, and Sterling Blue) and functions as a discreet accessory with up to five days of battery life.

The device strips out complex touchscreens in favor of a single physical button and background AI tracking:

  • Always-On Health Tracking: Continuously measures heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), breathing rate, sleep stages, activity levels, and daily movement patterns to spot early baseline health changes.
  • AI-Powered Voice Logging: Wearers press and hold the button to dictate quick updates about medications, symptoms, meals, or mood, which the platform’s AI automatically transcribes and logs directly into the shared family care plan.
  • Untethered Cellular and GPS Safety: Features built-in LTE and GPS (bundled directly into the service plan without requiring a separate mobile carrier contract), allowing wearers to send voice check-ins or emergency distress alerts without needing a phone nearby.
  • Privacy-First Audio: Operates strictly on a “guardian, not surveillance” framework, recording voice notes only when the wearer actively presses the physical button.

Pricing and Availability

Preorders for the Luffu Link open today at an introductory price of $249.99 ($50 off the planned $299.99 retail price), with U.S. customer shipments scheduled to begin in early 2027. The companion family subscription, which covers up to four family members on a single shared health hub, costs $19.99 per month or $199.99 annually.
