URAC Issues First Health Care AI Accreditations to Establish Industry Benchmarks
URAC has awarded its first Health Care Artificial Intelligence Accreditations to Guidehealth, RediMinds, and SandsRx, establishing an independent benchmark for responsible AI governance across healthcare.
The program evaluates both developers and end-users of healthcare AI against standards covering lifecycle management, risk mitigation, continuous monitoring, and algorithmic transparency. Rather than examining static codebases in isolation, the accreditation assesses how organizations manage AI in daily clinical and operational workflows.
The inaugural recipients span several healthcare sectors:
- Guidehealth (Developer & User): Accredited for its population health and value-based care platforms, verifying human-in-the-loop oversight across nurse care management and patient engagement workflows.
- RediMinds (Developer & User): Earned accreditation for AI tools supporting its Center for Independent Dispute Resolution. The evaluation prompted the firm to formalize employee policies around unvetted “shadow AI,” establishing data-entry restrictions for public LLMs and expanding transparency disclosures.
- SandsRx (Specialty Pharmacy User): Accredited for deploying operational AI tools within specialty pharmacy workflows while maintaining safeguards for patient data privacy and clinical safety.
The standards arrive as health systems and risk-bearing entities navigate heightened scrutiny around algorithmic bias, data privacy, and unmonitored vendor tools. Third-party verification offers healthcare executives a structured framework to audit vendor claims and manage enterprise risk as AI tools expand beyond early pilots.
