What You Should Know

  • The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) awarded Salesforce a three-year, $1.6 billion Agentic Enterprise License Agreement (AELA) to modernize care and benefits delivery for 17 million Veterans.
  • Operating through Salesforce’s public sector framework, Missionforce, the agreement deploys FedRAMP High-authorized and HIPAA-ready AI agents via Agentforce Public Sector and Agentforce Health.
  • A primary operational goal of the deployment is building on the VA’s Unified Patient Scheduling initiative—spanning 40,000+ provider services—to slash average appointment scheduling times from 28 days to minutes.
  • The agreement integrates Slack across 150+ VA medical centers as a real-time collaboration layer while using MuleSoft and Data 360 to unify legacy data silos.
  • Tableau will turn unified enterprise data into operational analytics, providing leadership with real-time claims processing dashboards, daily snap reports, and performance visibility.

Autonomous Agentic Triage and Enterprise Data Integration

Leveraging Salesforce’s Missionforce government architecture, the deployment equips VA personnel with FedRAMP High-authorized and HIPAA-ready AI agents designed to automate administrative tasks and streamline frontline operations.

The $1.6 billion AELA framework establishes an integrated digital layer across VA facilities nationwide:

  • 24/7 Virtual Contact Center & Triage: Deploys Agentforce Public Sector and Agentforce Health AI agents directly into live workflows to assist contact center staff with patient intake, real-time knowledge surfacing, case routing, and automated benefits verification.
  • Drastic Wait-Time Reduction: Enhances the VA’s Unified Patient Scheduling initiative—connecting over 40,000 provider services nationwide—with targeted workflow intelligence to compress appointment scheduling times from an average of 28 days down to minutes.
  • Unified Collaboration via Slack: Serves as the real-time operational layer across more than 150 VA medical centers, linking clinicians, administrative staff, and back-office systems into a single collaborative workspace.
  • Enterprise Data Layer & Analytics: Integrates legacy systems into a unified, secure data layer using MuleSoft and Data 360, while Tableau generates real-time operational insights, daily snap reports, and claims processing dashboards for leadership visibility.

“Every minute a VA employee spends navigating disconnected systems is a minute not spent serving a Veteran,” stated Kendall Collins, CEO of Missionforce & Government Cloud at Salesforce. “Salesforce gives VA a trusted foundation to connect its people, data, and workflows across the department. The goal is simple: Reduce administrative burden, help employees get to the right information faster, and give them more time to deliver the care and benefits Veterans have earned.”

Through the deployment of AI agents into high-volume contact centers and linking them directly to legacy data through MuleSoft establishes VA an operational model for public sector digital transformation.

Proving that agentic workflows can operate safely within a heavily regulated federal healthcare environment validates the viability of autonomous care coordination at scale. The contract will establish a definitive benchmark for how public health systems can leverage agentic AI, unified data infrastructure, and real-time collaboration tools to deliver rapid, connected care to millions of citizens.
