Citizen Health Secures $30M to Pioneer AI-Powered Rare Disease Care

What You Should Know:

– San Francisco-based Citizen Health, a platform empowering patients with rare and complex conditions, secures $30M in Series A funding led by 8VC, with participation from Transformation Capital and Headline, bringing the company’s total funding to $44M since its launch in late 2023.

– The new capital will accelerate the development of the company’s flagship product, a personalized AI Advocate designed to help patients navigate their health journeys.

New Paradigm for Patient-Powered Healthcare

With over 400 million people globally affected by rare diseases—and 95% of these conditions lacking approved treatments—the need for a solution is critical. Citizen Health’s platform not only supports individual patients but also creates a valuable, research-grade dataset that can accelerate drug discovery and clinical trials.

Founded by industry veterans Farid Vij and Nasha Fitter, Citizen Health is built on the belief that patients should have agency and clarity in their own healthcare. The platform uses a powerful combination of artificial intelligence, community support, and longitudinal health data to give patients the tools they need to manage their conditions. This includes everything from interpreting medical records and tracking symptoms to connecting with peers and finding the next best step in their care.

Recent Traction/Milestones

Since its launch, Citizen Health has already made a significant impact, demonstrating strong momentum and patient trust. The company has:

  • Built over 60 engaged communities for 123 rare and complex conditions.
  • Partnered with more than 70 patient advocacy groups, 70% of which joined organically.
  • Achieved a 98.3% patient data-sharing rate for research, highlighting a high level of trust in the platform.
  • Collaborated with over 10 pharmaceutical partners, with data already being accepted by the FDA for regulatory submission.

Expansion Plans

Citizen Health plans to launch the first version of its AI Advocate to select communities in the third quarter. The company will also introduce a new product specifically for patient advocacy groups. Their primary focus is to attract top-tier talent in AI engineering, product development, and design to help fulfill their mission of providing every patient with a personalized AI Advocate.
