What You Should Know: 

– Samsung Electronics Co. unveils its plans to roll out a beta version of an AI-powered health coach within its Samsung Health application in the US by the end of this year. This new digital assistant, in the form of a chatbot, will analyze users’ health data and assist them in incorporating their doctors’ prescriptions and medical advice into their daily routines.

– The initiative follows Samsung’s recent acquisition of Xealth, a US-based healthcare integration platform provider, aiming to create synergy between Samsung’s innovative wearable technology and Xealth’s digital health infrastructure.

Unifying Health Data for Personalized Guidance

The AI health coach is a new feature within the Samsung Health application, designed to empower users by providing access to health records collected by their wearables, managing medications, and tracking daily food intake. Park Hun-soo, head of the digital health team at Samsung’s Mobile eXperience (MX) division, emphasized Samsung’s goal to “build an environment where hospitals and healthcare systems are seamlessly connected through apps and wearable devices”.

The AI coach is specifically designed to alert users to potential health warning signs, though it is not intended for diagnosis or treatment. This clarification addresses potential concerns from the medical community regarding its function. While the beta version will be free, Samsung plans to establish a monetization model once additional features are released.

Synergy with Xealth Acquisition

The launch of the AI health coach’s beta version directly follows Samsung’s acquisition of Xealth this week. Xealth’s platform enables hospitals to manage diverse digital health tools and care programs, such as prescription monitoring and patient condition tracking, through a single interface.
