HIMSS25: Microsoft and Wolters Kluwer Health Integrate UpToDate into Microsoft Copilot Studio

What You Should Know:

– Wolters Kluwer Health, a provider of clinical decision support solutions, today announced a collaboration with Microsoft to integrate its UpToDate® platform with the healthcare agent service in Microsoft Copilot Studio.

– The partnership aims to explore and validate the use of generative AI to provide clinicians with real-time access to evidence-based medical information at the point of care.

Focus on Clinical Validation

The initial focus of the collaboration will be on integrating UpToDate content into Microsoft’s first-party applications, including Microsoft Dragon Copilot. This will enable clinicians to access evidence-based insights from UpToDate while using ambient and voice-enabled clinical documentation workflows. UpToDate is a trusted resource used by millions of clinicians worldwide, offering comprehensive medical knowledge and expert recommendations to support clinical decision-making. By integrating UpToDate with Microsoft’s generative AI capabilities, the collaboration seeks to enhance clinical workflows, improve accuracy, and ultimately, enhance patient care.

Microsoft’s Healthcare Agent Service

Microsoft’s healthcare agent service in Copilot Studio empowers healthcare organizations to develop and deploy their own generative AI-powered agents. This service offers:

  • Reusable healthcare-specific features and templates: Simplifies the development process and ensures consistency.
  • Pre-built healthcare intelligence: Integrates with trusted sources like UpToDate to provide accurate and reliable information.
  • Extensibility: Allows for customization and integration with other systems through plugins.
  • Healthcare-adapted safeguards: Includes safeguards to protect patient privacy and ensure responsible AI usage.

“Every day, healthcare organizations and clinicians depend on UpToDate to provide answers to clinical questions when caring for patients. By collaborating with Microsoft to incorporate UpToDate content into their healthcare agent service, we are pioneering new ways to provide healthcare organizations with trusted, evidence-based answers in real-time—where it best meets their needs. We believe these efforts together will help provide clinicians with new resources to alleviate administrative burdens and spend more time with patients,” said Greg Samios, President and CEO of Clinical Effectiveness for Wolters Kluwer Health.
